Only Handle it Once

Only Handle it Once

Only Handle it Once is a collaborative exhibition and publication by artists Cillian Finnerty and Cóilín O’Connell, curated by Alice Quinn Banville. Working from a shared interest in collage as a sculptural methodology, over the past two years Finnerty and O’Connell have produced exhibitions and publications under the title Permanent Mirage. The project takes as its starting point the multiple meanings of the term ‘hoard’: as the compulsive accumulation of (often worthless) objects, the amassing of wealth for its own sake, or as a valuable archaeological find.

The exhibition will open on Friday 7th August at 6pm at Dublin’s Royal Society of Antiquaries Ireland, running through August every Thursday - Sunday 12-6pm, or by appointment. An anthology of writing and images will also be launched on the 7th and available for purchase throughout. Edited by Eoghan McIntyre, the publication features newly commissioned texts by Cillian Finnerty, Cóilín O’Connell, Mark Von Schlegell, Chris Lee, Edith Bond, Isadora Epstein, and an essay of photographs taken by Cáit Fahy at the Revenue Museum of Ireland.

Live performances by Dublin and Isadora Epstein will mark the closing of the exhibition at 6pm on Sunday August 30th.

The Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland is located at 63 Merrion Square. The exhibition is on the first floor, accessed via two flights of stairs. Unfortunately the building is not wheelchair accessible. Please contact alicequinnbanville@gmail.com with any queries or press requests.
