DESCRIPTION:UNDERGROUND\n\n\nKAT LALOR\n\n\nA4 SOUNDS GALLERY\n\n\n\n\nEXHI
BITION OPENING: THURSDAY 23RD APRIL 2026\n\n\n\nUNDERGROUND is a recogniti
on and celebration of existence beneath the surface.\nInformed by Irish Va
mpiric Mythologies\, this exhibition entangles underground\ncultures\, Que
er infrastructures\, and the quiet\, regenerating presence of the\nvampire
. \n\nPaying homage to Drag as a resilient political power\, the exhibitio
	n features a\nperformative film set within soil\; the living\, renewing\,
connective tissue\,\nhumanised and tenderised by processes of decay.  The
film is visually led by a\nviscous green liquid\, the source of infection\
, regeneration\, and preservation\namongst an ecosystem of underground vam
pires. As this liquid travels\, it bathes\nand permeates the soil\, flowin
	g around\, through\, and between various vampiric\nbodies\, each in a vary
ing state of preservation\, transformation\, or euphoria.\nHolding referen
ce to silent film\, the work slowly renews\, grows\, and mutates\ntemporal
ly into an ode to Queer Club and Ballroom scenes\, the deep and\nunyieldin
	g roots of community\, activism\, and political resistance\, collapsing\nQ
ueer time into a pulsing pool of immortality. \n\n\n\n\nKAT LALOR\n\nKat L
alor is a Queer visual artist\, generating a practice of worldbuilding\nth
rough moving-image\, performance and writing. They invoke their practice t
o\ninterrogate constructed binary categories which limit the possibilities
of Queer\nintelligibility.\n\nAs someone existing between the gender bina
	ry\, Kat’s practice acts as an\nexplorative space for self-experimentation
	\, perspective-switching\, and\nspeculative narrative building. They enact
this by adapting Drag as a core\nmethodology. Inspired by the writing of
Renate Lorenz\, Drag becomes a historical\nand political tool for symbioti
c knowledge-making and knowledge-dismantling.\nWith the performing body as
the active site\, Drag enables purposeful embodiments\nwhich can collapse
	 the boundaries of truth/fiction\, subjective/collective\, and\nself/other
.\n\nEnthralled by the writings of Queer academics who seek to dismantle\n
socio-political constructs of gender\, time and space\, Kat combines the\n
theoretical and the personal through pre-existing speculative fictions. Th
is\ncreates a point of recognisable access\, and emphasises the acts of su
bversion\,\ndestabilisation\, and reclamation at play. Utilising absurd\,
camp and DIY\naesthetics\, normative knowledge is destabilised and binary
barriers can be\nbroken. Through this\, they create a space to question th
e validity of all\nnormative and political ‘truths’\, including those used
to deny marginalised\ngroups bodily autonomy and self-determination. Comb
	ined\, these tools allow for\ncritical reflections\, re-imaginings\, and r
eclaimings of Queer experience.\n\nKat completed their BA in Fine Art in 2
022 and an MA in Fine Art in 2024. Their\nwork has been included in shows
at The Complex Gallery\, The Highlanes Gallery\,\nthe RHA Gallery\, and Dr
oichead Arts Centre. They are a recipient of the We Only\nWant the Earth R
	esidency Awards 2024-2025.\n\n\n\n\nEVENT DETAILS\n\nA4 Sounds Gallery\nD0
