DESCRIPTION:Is a cock of hay a work of art? Is a loy more than a tool to tu
rn the sod? Is a\ndresser more than the sum of its contents?\n\nThe Green
Loy is a new exhibition at The Dock that brings these questions into\nfocu
s through a celebration of local folk art and culture. A cock of hay\, a l
oy\,\nand a vividly reimagined dresser form part of a vision that elevates
everyday\nobjects into the realm of art.\n\nThe Green Loy is grounded in
the life and traditions of Leitrim and the\nnorth-west\, paying tribute to
the renowned American folklorist\, Henry Glassie.\nThe exhibition is cura
ted by writer and broadcaster Vincent Woods\, ceramic\nartist Katy West\,
and dancer and community artist Edwina Guckian. \n\nThe exhibition will al
so include a tin fiddle\, Leitrim chairs\, cow and donkey\nmasks\, patchwo
	rk and crochet work\, all by local makers\, and a site-specific wall\npain
ting by visual artist Miriam de Búrca.\n\nMusician and composer Dave Sheri
dan has composed a new tune\, ‘The Green Loy’\,\nespecially for the exhibi
tion and its associated events. A striking poster\ndesign was created by m
usician and graphic artist Jesse Smith\, who has strong\nassociations with
both Leitrim and The Dock. \n\nThe Pat Collins documentary Field Work\, e
xploring the work and vision of Henry\nGlassie\, will be screened at The D
ock on Saturday 18 July. Glassie lived and\nworked in Fermanagh in the 197
0s and wrote a series of remarkable books inspired\nby the people and trad
itions of Ballymenone. A frequent visitor to Leitrim\, he\nis a passionate
advocate for the proper acknowledgement of people’s work and the\nquiet a
rtistry of individual lives.\n\nAlso on Saturday 18 July\, a Bring and Tel
l day\, as part of the exhibition\, will\ninvite visitors to bring an obje
ct or item that they consider to be an example\nof folk art to show and di
