DESCRIPTION:Join on Sunday 11 October at 6pm for an experimental film scree
ning by Guy\nSherwin and Lynn Loo\, including Messages (Guy Sherwin 1984)\
, Conversations (Lynn\nLoo 2026)\, and the very special Irish premier of C
onnemara (Guy Sherwin 1980).\nOriginally shot on 16mm in the 1980s by Sher
win while traveling within the Irish\nlandscape and reflecting on structur
e\, presence\, and place\, the film remained\nunseen for over three decade
s and was lovingly restored by EYE Institute\nAmsterdam.\n\n“Time is exper
ienced through the film in a number of ways: traces of past human\nactivit
y\, static shots of long duration\, the same places revisited in different
\nconditions of weather and light\, exact print repeats of some of the sho
ts\, exact\nrepeats of ambient sounds (set against different images)\, an
overall symmetrical\nshape to the film. I was also interested to discover
what kind of aural and\nvisual spaces the mind would create from the juxta
	position of conflicting\nstimuli.” – Guy Sherwin\n\nMessages\, 35 mins\, b
	&w\, silent 16mm\, 1984\,  Guy Sherwin\n\nConversations 2\, 15mins\, colou
	r sound DV\, 2026\,  Lynn Loo\n\nConnemara\, 30 mins\, colour sound 16mm\,
1980\,  Guy Sherwin\n\nThis event is free but booking is essential. Book
	here.\n[https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/screening-by-guy-sherwin-and-lynn-loo-
tickets-2001179783603?aff=oddtdtcreator]\n\nLynn Loo is originally from Si
ngapore and currently living in London. She taught\nmusic before making he
r first film in 1997. The influence of a poetic approach\nto experimental
film began in Chicago at the School of the Art Institute of\nChicago. On m
oving to London she learned a different\, more tactile\, film culture\ntak
ing place in Europe. Her work looks into the possibility of sculpting time
\nand space through the language of moving-image and the diversity of tech
	nology.\nIt includes single-screen films\, multiple-projection performance
	s\, and\ninstallations in super 8\, 16mm\, and video.\n\nGuy Sherwin studi
ed painting at Chelsea School of Art before joining the London\nFilm-Maker
s’ Cooperative in the early 1970s\, where he learned the processes of\nfil
	m. The rigours of a material based approach opened up all aspects of film\
nmaking and exhibition as potential for exploration. The various threads o
f his\npractice originated there: silent one-roll camera films\; sounds ma
de from camera\nimages or by hand\; playing with the material of the scree
n and the space of\nperformance. His collaboration with Lynn Loo has exten
ded this approach into\nmulti-projection and digital forms.
