DESCRIPTION:aemi presents a very special international programme of experim
ental ‘trance\nfilms’.\n\nThe films selected here bypass comprehension\, t
hese are works that are\nexperienced first and understood later (if at all
). In his notes on Austrian\nfilmmaker Jung an Tagen’s A Flock of Rotation
s Christian Höller describes how\n‘there is no boundary here\, no outside\
, no escape’ and this applies across a\nselection of films that take us fr
om an explicitly digital realm to the far more\nearthly realm of the Ataca
ma Desert in Daïchi Saïto’s EARTHEARTHEARTH (screening\nhere in a beautifu
l 35mm print). As Alejandro Bachmann notes in relation\nto Happy Doom ‘the
boundaries between inside and outside\, me and the world\, the\nvirtual a
	nd the material\, all become permeable\, ambiguous\, irrelevant’. A\nperfe
ct descriptor for a programme that skirts the outer realm of psychedelia\n
and cinema.\n\nThe screening includes two works screening from 35mm prints
	\, both courtesy of\nLight Cone.\n\nFILM INFO:\n\nA Flock of Rotations\, J
	ung an Tagen\, 2026\, Austria\, 11 mins\nFuddy Duddy\, Siegfried A. Fruhau
	f\, 2016\, Austria\, 5 mins\nHappy Doom\,Billy Roisz\, 2023\, Austria\, 3
	mins\nVille Maria\, Alexandre Larose\, 2006-2009\, Canada\, 12 mins\nEARTH
	EARTHEARTH\, Daïchi Saïto\, 2021\, Japan\, 30 mins\n\nTotal running time:
61 minutes\n\nA Flock of Rotations – Jung an Tagen\n\nContinuously falling
pitches – descending into infinity.\n\nFuddy Duddy – Siegfried A. Fruhauf
	\n\nIn Siegfried A. Fruhauf´s Fuddy Duddy\, something resembling a big ban
g is seen\,\nwith an energy resulting from the struggle between order and
chaos. Everything\nwe see takes place within a linear force field – whatev
er happens in the black\nand white images that arise from invisible source
s of artistic creativity\,\nwhatever reveals its presence the instant it d
isappears. The lines themselves\nbegin to flicker. It is as if they emerge
from lidless eyes – were it only\npossible – yet they do not give way. Th
e crucial grid underlying classical\naesthetics of harmony and measurement
begins to glow\, but it does not go up in\nflames- Bert Rebhandl\n\nHappy
Doom – Billy Roisz\n\nHAPPY DOOM is an audiovisual poem\, an ode to color
intoxication and vertigo. The\nscreen a vibrating membrane that simultane
ously spits and swallows colors and\nnoisy beats – a hypnotic deformed cir
cumpolar psychedelic short trip.\n\nVille Maria – Alexandre Larose\n\nThis
film is inspired from a dream during which I fall from the top of a\nhigh
-rise building facing the sky- Alexandre Larose\n\nEARTHEARTHEARTH – Daïch
i Saïto\n\nDawn breaks where land is flesh\nAnd bones’ echoes\;\nYou’ve li
ved through extinctions –\nStars\, skies\, sand and seas\;\nFuture is catc
hing us up at last\,\nAnd all the dead are ahead of us.\n\nA major film fr
	om a singular artist\, earthearthearth is a pulsing\, painterly\ntour de f
orce. – Michael Sicinski\n\nWith special thanks to our colleagues at Sixpa
