DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, 23 May from 2-5pm Ormston House will host A Spont
aneous Cairn at\nthe Record Room\, Limerick. Join us for an informal after
noon event of moving\nimage artworks and performative lectures. Admission
is free and booking is not\nnecessary.\n\nThese works were selected from a
n open call\, originally issued in late 2025\,\ninviting submissions for a
n artist to be included in the Limerick iteration of\nour touring exhibiti
on\, Memory of a Free Festival. We sought work that resonated\nwith the th
ematics of this group exhibition: countercultural\, DIY\, and\ngrassroots
	movements\, art as activism\, the case for/against nuclear power\,\nfestiv
als as sites of alternative social order and music as catalyst for social\
nand political change.\n\nThe title is taken from a line in Orla Barry’s n
ewly commissioned installation\nKodak Moon\; “we will lay these caring roc
ks in a spontaneous cairn”. This refers\nto a now legendary occurrence at
the 1978 anti-nuclear festival in Carnsore\nPoint\, whereby attendees gath
ered stones to build a cairn.\n\nThis event includes contributions from Ch
	loe Brenan\, Mary Sue Connolly\, Yvanna\nGreene\, David Lawless\, Martina
O’Brien\, Marie Phelan\, and Deirdre Southey.\n\nOrganised by Ormston Hous
e with funding from the Arts Council of Ireland through\nthe Touring of Wo
	rk Scheme.
